About Us

Monica Ros School has been providing a magical beginning to Ojai children’s education for more than 80 years. Our mission is to expand a child’s natural passion for learning in a setting that celebrates Ojai’s natural beauty. Our curriculum builds a child’s confidence both in the classroom and out in the world, inspiring a lifetime of discovery.

Qualifications

  • Valid teaching credential (preferred but not required).

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred but not required).

  • High School diploma.

  • Two years of experience teaching in a kindergarten or grade school classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement lesson plans and instructional activities designed to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Promote learning in the areas of academic, social-emotional, and physical development and generate enthusiasm of children to actively participate in the learning process.

  • Assist in the management of classroom behavior and facilitate a positive and inclusive learning culture and environment.

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who may need additional assistance with academic tasks or social-emotional skills.

  • Assist with classroom organization, including setting up learning materials, maintaining cleanliness, and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Collaborate with the co-teacher to assess student progress and provide feedback on student performance.

  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times to ensure their safety and well-being.

  • Assist with special projects, field trips, and extracurricular activities as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, co-teacher, and parents.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the academic and social development of young learners.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the classroom environment.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to assist with classroom management and administrative tasks.

  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing and email communication.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Supportive, collaborative and adaptable.

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is required.

  • A high level of integrity, curiosity and warmth.

  • A growth-mindset and strong work ethic.

  • Excellent English language skills with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Proficiency in Spanish (or other languages) is a plus though not required.

  • Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters as required by the school together with agreement to adhere as a condition of employment to all of the school's Covid-19 risk mitigation policies and protocols (if offered the position).

  • Current Driver’s License.

  • Clean DOJ digital fingerprinting background check (if offered the position).

  • Proof of negative TB test (if offered the position).

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (if offered the position).

Functional Requirements

  • Capability to observe, review, and analyze reports and educational materials.

  • Effective communication skills, both in hearing and speaking, to engage with students, colleagues, and parents.

  • Comfort with sitting and standing for extended periods, including occasional climbing of small ladders.

  • Agility in bending, kneeling, and reaching to access teaching materials and resources.

  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate classroom technology and equipment, as well as to handle administrative tasks.

  • Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds as needed for classroom organization and materials management.

Compensation Range

This position is a salary position for approximately 40 hours of work weekly. School holidays and several weeks in summer are paid?  Starting salary commensurate with experience.
