About Us

Monica Ros School has been providing a magical beginning to Ojai children’s education for more than 80 years. Our mission is to expand a child’s natural passion for learning in a setting that celebrates Ojai’s natural beauty. Our curriculum builds a child’s confidence both in the classroom and out in the world, inspiring a lifetime of discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging art sessions for students in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade on a weekly basis, utilizing mixed mediums to inspire creativity.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate art projects that complement and enhance the curriculum.

  • Emphasize traditional art techniques while infusing your own creative flair to inspire students' imagination and expression.

  • Implement classroom management strategies to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.

  • Encourage collaboration, experimentation, and self-expression among students through art projects.

  • Maintain a safe and organized art studio space conducive to artistic exploration and learning.

Required Skills

  • Deep organizational skills and attention to detail to effectively plan and execute art lessons.

  • Passion for children's artistic expression and the ability to inspire creativity.

  • Collaborative spirit to work closely with teachers and staff to integrate art into the curriculum.

  • Sense of humor and flexibility to adapt to the diverse needs and interests of young students.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Must have experience teaching.

  • Proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus, but not required.

  • Degree in Art or similar major preferred.

  • A high level of integrity, curiosity and warmth.

  • A growth-mindset and strong work ethic.

  • Excellent English language skills with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. Proficiency in Spanish (or other languages) is a plus though not required.

  • Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters as required by the school together with agreement to adhere as a condition of employment to all of the school's Covid-19 risk mitigation policies and protocols (if offered the position).

  • Current Driver’s License.

  • Clean DOJ digital fingerprinting background check (if offered the position).

  • Proof of negative TB test (if offered the position).

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (if offered the position).

Functional Requirement

  • Ability to demonstrate and guide art techniques effectively.

  • Clear communication skills to engage with students and colleagues.

  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and move around the art studio.

  • Capacity to lift and carry art supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.

  • Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.

Compensation Range

This position is non-exempt, with an hourly rate between $30-$35 for approximately 15 hours of work weekly. School holidays and several weeks in the summer when the school is not in session are unpaid. Starting salary commensurate with experience.
