Red Room at Monica Ros School

Red Room at Monica Ros School

Monica Ros School is a progressive, independent private school focused on early-childhood’s opportunities. We support joyful learning, exploring, and growing. Our mission is to expand a young child’s natural passion for learning in a setting that celebrates Ojai’s natural beauty. The Red Room is for our four-year-old students who attend school Monday-Friday. All Red Room students will turn five prior to the next school year and will be moving on to Kindergarten. The class is housed in one of our campus’ original cottages and is connected to the other four-year-old classroom, the Blue Room. There is a covered front patio with outdoor seating. The cozy classroom has areas devoted to imaginative play, a writing center, small group activities, and a shares a kitchen with the Blue Room for special cooking projects. There are 14 students with our two beloved teachers. Red Room students experience specialized Spanish and Education Through Music classes, as well as participate in all Monica Ros School traditions such as Theme Week, the Holiday Performance, Arts Month, Founder’s Day, an individual classroom performance, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, and more!

The Best Part

Mrs. Krout: I love coming to work each and every day to see the world through the eyes of a child. We keep the spirit of childhood alive at Monica Ros School through play, hands-on learning, and the utmost care and attention to social development. We watch lifelong friendships blossom each year! It is such a joy to be part of a young child’s early experiences in exploring the world.

Mrs. Weston: The Red Room has so many experiential learning opportunities throughout the year. One of my favorite pieces of our year is the unit on “Above and Below” that becomes our classroom’s Science Fair project each Spring. We begin by planting potatoes, cultivating the plants, studying how they grow and what other plants grow “above and below” the ground. By the Science Fair we have harvested our crop AND made some of the most amazing mashed potatoes the students have ever tasted (if we do say so ourselves!) This fun-filled learning experience is a perfect example of what we do in Preschool at Monica Ros School.
