Annual Theme & Theme Week
Each year students and teachers examine a different theme such as Ancient Greece, Flight, Around the World, Building, Chumash, Night, Books, The Ocean, The World of Beatrix Potter, and Inventions, among many others. On Monday of Theme Week, the School is closed (to students!) while teachers and parents prepare the campus. On Tuesday, students arrive at a school magically transformed to a place of the imagination, and they spend time each morning the rest of the week exploring various aspects of the theme through literature, discussion, query, examination, dramatic play, and hands-on exploration. It has been rumored that at some time during the week when students and parents least expect it, the faculty presents a dramatic adaptation pertaining to the year’s theme. Theme Week is an opportunity for parental participation for anyone interested in sharing specific knowledge, making presentations, or building exploration stations. It is a wonderfully creative time and creative ideas are welcome!
This year, Monica Ros School visits the Old West, “Little School on the Prairie!”
