Music

Music is an essential element of every day at Monica Ros School. Preschoolers gather together each morning for Outside Music in the amphitheater to sing songs together before they head to their classrooms. On any given day, grade schoolers can be found practicing with their teachers for one of their many performances, including the holiday concert, class plays, the grade school play, and third-grade graduation. Even every Spanish class incorporates numerous songs.

However, one greatly-anticipated special class is music with the music teacher, which grade schoolers attend multiple times each week. During a highly-energized class period, students learn rhythm, pitch, and other musical skills as they sing songs from countries throughout the world, including our own. Over the course of their tenure at Monica Ros School, students will have sung in languages such as Spanish, Hebrew, German, and many others. From the beginning of third grade, students learn to play the recorder and the third grade “recorder orchestra” is featured in performances throughout the year.

The Monica Ros School Chorus is an extracurricular activity open to all grade school students. The group’s focus is community service, and the Chorus gives performances in the Ojai community at venues such as retirement homes and hospitals.
