Third Grade

Through hard work and play, third graders have earned their privilege to serve as role models for the entire school.  For up to six years, these students have been learning to be leaders.  By third grade, those who began Monica Ros in preschool have performed in at least five class plays, five holiday concerts, two all-school musicals, three poetry nights, and five Founder’s Days, to name a few.  They have been reading buddies with younger students and older students, developing friendships across all grades and learning from their peers.  What a priceless opportunity for students who are less than a decade in years to have such leadership experiences this early on!

In addition to a rich academic curriculum in all core subjects and special subject classes in the arts, P.E., and Spanish, third graders lead the School with numerous traditions that they have been anticipating for years.  Before the school year officially commences, third graders kick it off with the Third Grade Barbeque.  In order to raise money for the culminating, end-of-year Third Grade Campout, the class organizes, advertises, prepares, and executes monthly lunchtime barbeques.  Each student researches a significant historical figure - acting the part in full costume and with a historically accurate narrative - for the Wax Museum.  Third graders write, illustrate, and interview for a school newspaper.  They participate in community service, lead the Talent Show, and set the stage for Poetry Night.   Finally, after the campfire has dwindled and all the s’mores has been eaten, third graders impart their memories from a life-shaping Monica Ros School experience at Third Grade Graduation, topping it off with singing and, of course, a few tunes on the recorder.
